A Printable Membership Proposal
Form Proposing a Member It is important to recruit potential Rotarians based on
their professional and personal integrity exemplified in the community.
Although potential members may have a passing interest in Rotary, it is
first and foremost a club member’s responsibility to seek out members who will
not only join but also become involved in Lamar Rotary.
(Will they become a Rotarian?) When considering proposing a member, reflect on six
questions. 1) Is the prospect’s character and reputation above reproach? 2) Is the reputation of his organization exemplary? 3) Is he or she “service-minded?” 4) Can the prospect meet the financial obligations of Rotary membership? 5) Can he or she attend meetings regularly? 6)
Should we ask “Does he or she have an interest in joining Rotary?” Once a club member has determined that the candidate exemplifies the best qualities of a Rotarian, he or she will fill out the proposal form and submit it to the Club Secretary. Upon approval of the Lamar Rotary Board of Directors, the
prospect’s name is presented to the membership for approval.
If the process works as intended, the prospect should be unaware
of most of this pre-induction activity. After membership approval, the candidate attends a
“Fireside Chat” presented by two Rotary members, normally the person making
the proposal and a board member. In
the Fireside Chat, the candidate learns more about Rotary and club membership.
He or she also is given an opportunity to join Rotary by completing a
membership application. After final board approval, the new member is introduced to
the club as its newest member. For more information on membership, contact Membership Chair Anne-Marie Crampton at anne-marie.crampton@lamarcc.edu. Click above for
