Leadership Conference 2004

See Thumb Nail Photo Page For More Conference Photos 2000 Conf In 1993, the Lamar Rotary Clubs started the Rotary International Western Leadership Conference for High School Students patterned after the program in Manhattan, Kansas. 53 students attended. At the 2004 Conference, 125 students representing 62 high schools made the trek to Lamar, Colorado, to learn about leadership and how to change their schools. These kids, whose tuition is paid by Rotary clubs and other sponsors, gave up 4 days of their summer to become better leaders. Student reaction to the program has been positive from the very first year. The following responses are from students attending the conference in June of 2001: “I believe that this conference has made such an impact on me. It has left me feeling like I can actually make a difference and be a positive role model. I am glad that I attended this and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone.” Lacey Knapp, Rocky Ford, Co. (Rocky Ford Rotary Club) “This conference has changed my entire outlook on life, as well as how I view and treat other people. I have not only learned how to lead others, but how to lead myself. Thank you for changing my life!” Jessica Cone, Larkspur, Co. (Castle Rock Rotary Club) “The information presented during this conference will unequivocally enhance my comprehension of leadership pitfalls and geometrically iterate my capacity to lead others.” Alex Ruehle, Gunnison, Co. (Gunnison Rotary Club) “This conference was a great opportunity to learn, grow and meet more people. It has been an experience that has made me more aware of people’s ideas and feelings. I have learned more in these three days that is so useful than could ever be taught anywhere else.” Maria Borg, Avon, Co. (Vail-Eagle Valley Rotary Club) “I came to this camp completely not interested in leadership. I didn’t even really know what leadership was.
